Plains Mountains and Seas Glow with You
Ethan Heberer
Opening June 3, 2016 6-9pm

There is a gold medal, it is followed by a reception, the reception is in a white room, the white room is decorated, the decorations are accurate: all of which are appropriate. We, you and I, are there also, uninvited and compelled to participate. The white room suits, its efficacy is punctuated by us, the stuff hanging on the walls, the stuff on the floor, the people around us, the stuff in the air. It is indeed a happy occasion. We are celebrating and pause for clarity, but we find none. I can mimic the shouting with my mouth, if I hold my eyes open I can produce tears and we can do these things together, but we cannot comprehend them. The white room collects around us and we volunteer ourselves to it. We lose our bodies there. We do not refrain, our bodies are informed and our minds mustn’t interfere, though they do. It is physical and distracting. We shouldn’t compromise, but our desires have been seduced. We are elated: the glory, the triumph, the victory, the uncertainty.
