07.12 Instincts of Matter

July 6 - August 4, 2011

A collaborative installation and accompanying works by Katie Ford and Ashley Ivonne Limes.

Ford and Limes come together with an interest in the relationships formed between humans and the places they inhabit. In this body of work, the artists examine the sense of awe inspired by certain physical spaces, whether in the repetition of vaulted cathedral ceilings or caves filled with slowly formed stalactites.

Limes and Ford's installation is constructed of layers of screen-printed fabric and paper structures referencing both architectural and geological formations. Hung from the ceiling and walls, these forms create strata that immerse the viewer while inside the gallery and are seen as a diagrammatic cross-section from outside the large street-front window. A collaborative editioned print produced in conjunction with the installation will be on view as well, standing in as a part blueprint or survey of the landscape built.
